Welcome to Cub Scout Pack 779. The following is an outline of rules and procedures set by the Pack Committee in order to operate a quality Cub Scout Pack. |
| THE DEN AND DEN MEETING A den is a group of no more than eight (8) boys with the exception of founding dens. Each den should have a Den Leader, Assistant Den Leader and when available a Den Chief. Den meetings are usually held once a week, except the week of the Pack Meeting, at a time and location that is set by the Den Leader. Meetings cannot be held with any less than two (2) adults present. Boys must be escorted into the meeting by an adult and are not permitted to leave the meeting until an adult reports to the Den Leader. Your sons will require work at home along with work at the den meetings. They will not be able to achieve their rank if they do not work on them at home as well as at den meetings. Whenever possible, work and or projects completed at home should be brought to the den meeting to show. The boys must be sure to have their Cub Scout books signed off by their parent or an adult verifying the work has been completed and bring their books to all Den Meetings for their Den Leader’s approval. |
|
THE PACK AND PACK MEETING The Pack consists of the Pack Committee, a Tiger Cub Den, a Wolf Den, a Bear Den, Jr. Webelos, Sr. Webelos and the parents of the boys. Pack meetings are held the 4th Wednesday of each month, except when conflicts arise due to holidays, school programs, etc. at which time the meeting may have to be rescheduled -- see Pack 779 Annual Calendar for confirmed dates. You will be informed of any changes in advance. The Pack Meetings are held at Fork United Methodist Church and start promptly at 7:00 p.m.. Advancements are awarded only at Pack Meetings. All Scouts are to be in uniform and must be accompanied by an adult to all Pack Meetings. All conversation during the actual meeting must be kept to a minimum as a courtesy to the Pack and the boys.
Fork
United Methodist is our Chartered Organization which is chartered by
the Boy Scouts of America to use the Scouting program. They provide
the Scouts with a suitable meeting place and facilities for pack
meetings, adult leadership, supervision, and opportunities for a
healthy Scouting life for the boys under its care. It is expected
that every participant in Scouts show respect and care to the church
members and its facilities. It is the responsibility of the Scouts
to leave the church in the same condition, if not better, than it
was prior to its use including removal of trash after meetings or
functions. |
|
PARENTS The Cub Scout program was designed for parents to participate with their sons. Parents simply do not let their sons join Cub Scouting - they join with them. The Pack Committee and Staff consists of mostly parents of Scouts who enjoy working with children and believe the principles and program of Scouting can help youth get the most out of life. However, the Committee and Staff cannot effectively run the Pack without support from the Scouts parents. There are many areas in which the parents can support the Pack, serving as a Committee Member, Leader, Assistant Leader, Chairman of a Pack function or serving on a committee for a Pack function. Parents are required to participate in Den functions as well as a minimum of at least one Pack Committee. |
|
AWARDS All boys joining Scouts (Tigers, Wolves, Bears, Jr. Webelos and Sr. Webelos) must first earn the Bobcat Rank. No other ranks can be awarded before Bobcat. For Wolves and Bears, arrow points can only be awarded if the rank has been earned. Webelos is a two-year program which consists of the Webelos rank followed by the Arrow of Light. The Arrow of Light is the only Cub Scouting award that is carried over to the Boy Scout uniform. |
|
CANCELLATIONS - INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY If Baltimore County Schools are closed or dismissed early due to inclement weather; there will be NO Scout Meetings. If severe weather conditions begin in the afternoon or early evening, please use your own judgment and remember your safety is most important. |
| UNIFORMS An official scout uniform is required for all scouts. The Official Scout shirt (short or long sleeve), cap, belt and neckerchief, slide (official or handmade) are required. Official pants or jeans, shorts in summer, are acceptable. Boys at the Wolf or Bear level wear the blue uniform shirt, however, the Webelos may choose either the blue based on the Cub Scout uniform or the khaki/tan uniform similar to the one worn by Boy Scouts. The khaki/tan shirt will require epilets (blue shoulder loops). All youth and adult members uniforms must include the Council Patch and Pack Numeral (779) on the left sleeve, the U.S. Flag Emblem and Den Numeral on the right sleeve and the World Crest Emblem is worn centered above the left pocket. Uniforms should be worn to all Scout functions, i.e. Den Meetings, Pack Meetings, or other Scout activities. A Class-B uniform consisting of a Cub Scout t-shirt may be worn to pre-approved functions. |
|
BOOKS The Pack will supply the Scout with the appropriate Cub Scout Book for that year. The next rank book is given to the Scout at the Spring Advancement Ceremony if he has achieved his rank so he may begin work toward his next rank over the summer. If the Scout has not earned his rank by the Spring Advancement Ceremony, the next rank book will be given to the Scout at his first Den Meeting of the new year (September). If he has, by that time, earned his rank, he will receive his award at the September Pack Meeting. If not, the previous rank is no longer obtainable and the Scout must begin work towards the next rank. |
|
REGISTRATION FEES Registration fees for Wolves, Bears and Webelos are in the amount of $55, Tiger Cubs are in the amount of $35, and are due at the September Pack Meeting. These fees cover the National Registration Fee, Unit Accident Insurance, Boy's Life Magazine for each Scout, Awards, program materials and other basic expenses. Checks should be made payable to Cub Scout Pack 779. |
|
FUNDRAISERS The pack maintains itself through its budget and money-earning projects. Fundraisers are a necessity to support the operation of the pack and it is imperative that everyone make an attempt to help out the Pack. These fundraisers help to pay for patches, pins, activities, crafts, pinewood cars, books, special events, entertainment, trips, leader uniforms, leader training, plus various other expenses. |
